The extraordinary tax payment that delayed Paul Pogba’s move to Manchester United has now been solved

Paul Pogba appears to be Manchester bound. Again.

The latest word is that Pogba's move to Old Trafford is a done deal. Hallelujah. Manchester United will pay Juventus £95 million to secure Pogba with a further £20m being paid to his agent Mino Raiola. This payment to the agent has become the final sticking point in the protracted transfer of Pogba back to Manchester United. But now it appears to have been solved. Juve will dig oul Mino out of a hole and pay his tax bill for the £20m he receives from the deal. Sure you couldn't have a man paying his own tax bill on 20 million quid. It would be barely worth getting it. https://twitter.com/MiguelDelaney/status/758979748018073600 Interestingly, reports in the Spanish press on Friday claim that the French midfielder rejected the chance to move back to Manchester a year ago - although it's claimed that it wasn't United that made him an offer. The report comes from Madrid-based Marca who, having seen Real Madrid seemingly miss out on Pogba, have been eager to tell their readership that the player would've much sooner moved to the Bernabeu this summer than Old Trafford. Intriguingly, the report also claims that Manchester City were in pursuit of the 23-year-old in August of 2015, and even agreed a deal with Juventus to take him to the Etihad. However, Pogba is said to have rejected the offer with Marca claiming the player explained he didn't wish to move so late in the transfer window and was keen to see what offers came his way in the summer of 2016. As if the news of a much needed big name central midfielder arriving at Old Trafford wasn't already enough to make United fans happy, the fact that he appears to have spurned the advances of their city rivals is even more cause for celebration.
