Paul Scholes couldn’t forget about Liverpool when discussing Wayne Rooney’s goalscoring record

Manchester United and Liverpool fans are always accusing each other of being obsessed...

This afternoon at Old Trafford, Wayne Rooney scored his 249th goal for Manchester United. Reading were the unfortunate victims and they shipped three more in their FA Cup third round loss to the cup-holders. Rooney's opener saw him draw level with United legend Bobby Charlton as the club's record goalscorer, despite claims that Charlton may have a couple of uncredited goals. The feat drew lots of praise from teammates, past and present, and football fans. Not everyone wanted to remember the occasion though... https://twitter.com/btsportfootball/status/817744651537027072 United's 4-0 win, their seventh victory in a row, definitely cheered up former player Paul Scholes. On commentary duty for BT Sport, Scholes praised Rooney for reaching the goalscoring milestone and he was in no doubt about the team he wants Rooney to hit his 250th goal against. He remarked:

"Let's hope Wayne Rooney breaks it... against Liverpool."

Good to see that old Scholes grin back after a tough few months/years of punditry duty. United take on Liverpool next at Old Trafford in the league. They are 10 points behind league leaders Chelsea and five off the Merseysiders. Still, Scholes was allowing himself to dream:

"I think if Manchester United beat Liverpool, they're back in the race. Chelsea haven't been that convincing."
