Pep Guardiola claims title win would put Man City level with Alex Ferguson’s Man United

Quite the claim.

Pep Guardiola has claimed that if Manchester City win the Premier League title, they will match the achievements of Manchester United under Alex Ferguson. Man City only need to match Liverpool's result on the final day to retain their title, with Guardiola's side facing Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium, while Liverpool host Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Ferguson's United side are one of the most successful in football.

Under Ferguson, United won 13 top-flight titles and were one of the most dominant forces in both English and continental competitions at the time. If City are successful then they would win their fourth crown within five seasons, something Guardiola claims would be on par with the success of Ferguson. "When I arrive and people here say the Premier League is really difficult the toughest one, everyone wins different ones. Just Sir Alex Ferguson with United could do four in five years," he said. "When this happens, you realise the magnitude of this United (team) in this period and how they were able to do it many times. We're close to being a part of that and we have to try to take it."

Guardiola is already planning for next season.

Although the title has yet to be secured, the Spaniard is already casting his eye over to squad improvements next season. After failing to go all the way in the Champions League yet again, City moved quickly to complete the signing of Erling Haaland and have plans to bring in more additions to the Etihad too. Guardiola is keen to ensure that his new marquee signing can fit into his squad and is hoping for success on all fronts next year. He added: "It is especially important that he is arriving in a new country, new house, making new friends. All these kinds of things he has to adjust to. "(But) I'm pretty sure he adapts well. If it takes weeks — great. If it takes months — great. He hasn't come here for two, three months, he's come for many years, I hope."
