Premier League agree new TV deal and here’s what it means for Sky and BT customers

The Premier League have agreed a new £4.464 billion (€5.010 billion) television deal with two live packages still to be sold with interest from multiple bidders.

BT and Sky have once again been awarded live broadcasting rights with the two broadcasters splitting five packages between them from the 2019/20 season through to the end of the 2021/22 season. BT have been awarded Package A - 32 Saturday matches with 12.30 kick-offs - while Sky have been awarded Packages B,C,D and E - which will see the company pay £3.6bn (€4.04bn) to show 128 matches per season, two more than under the last deal. The deal will see the broadcasters spend £672 million less than the last deal which was sold for a total of £5.136bn (€5.77bn) for 168 games. Commenting on the deal, Premier League Executive Chairman Richard Scudamore said: "We are extremely pleased that BT and Sky continue to view the Premier League and our clubs as such an important part of their offering. "Both broadcasters are fantastic partners for the Premier League and have a track record of making our competition available to fans across the country through their high-quality and innovative programming. "To have achieved this investment with two packages of live rights remaining to sell is an outcome that is testament to the excellent football competition delivered by the clubs. "It provides them with certainty and will underpin their continued efforts to put on the most compelling football, invest sustainably in all areas, and use their popularity and reach to have a positive impact on the sport and beyond. "We will now continue the sales process to deliver the best possible outcome for the remaining packages of rights in the UK and throughout the rest of the world.” Sky will have the first pick of the weekend fixture, plus Saturday evening matches for the first time, while BT will have 20 second picks and 12 fifth picks from their 32 matches.
