REPORTS: Ryan Giggs’ future at Manchester United is about to be decided and it is not good

Not even Alex Ferguson served Manchester United as long or nearly as well as Ryan Giggs but the Welshman looks to be headed for the Old Trafford exit doors. Having joined the club as a 14-year-old to go on and win 13 Premier Leauge titles, two Champions League trophies and a host of other honours, Giggs acted as a player and assistant manager with David Moyes before stepping in when the club needed him to be interim boss. He then served under Louis van Gaal for two years, purely as assistant manager and, although it looked briefly like he was being groomed as the next man to take the hot seat, Jose Mourinho's arrival has scuppered those plans. The Manchester Evening News, among others, are reporting that the new manager has offered Giggs a lesser role because it is understood that Mourinho's long-standing assistant Rui Faria will join him at Old Trafford. Mourinho once said that Faria would go on to become a better manager than Brendan Rodgers and, at one stage, that might even have been considered a compliment. The Daily Mail are reporting that the role Giggs was offered was to link United's under-21 team better with the senior set-up but the 42-year-old is yet to make a decision on the proposals and is expected to turn down the post. 963 appearances as a player, 168 goals, 34 trophies and even an FA Cup as assistant manager, Giggs' association with Manchester United looks like it is about to end.
