REVEALED: The actual breakdown of Anthony Martial’s €30 million contract add-ons

There's been a lot of speculation about Anthony Martial's whopping transfer fee.

While we always knew that it was substantial, we now know exactly what Manchester United could pay for the former Monaco forward. On The Guardian's Football Weekly Extra podcast this week, French journalist Philippe Auclair explained the fee and the add-ons that United may have to shell out, depending on how the next year plays out for young Martial. "The figure of almost £36 million has been quoted by almost everybody," Auclair said. "But in France, it's a very different figure that's been quoted. It was €80 million." There are three rather specific bonuses at play in this potential €80 million fee and Auclair went on to explain them. "Apparently it's because of the add-ons, €30 million... "It's €10 million when he plays his 25th game (for Manchester United), €10 million when he gets his 10th cap with the French national team and €10 million if he finishes in the top 20 list of best players in Europe." So there you have it. It seems that Monaco could be in for a very profitable year if Martial comes good at Old Trafford.
