Roman Abramovich considering bringing Avram Grant back to Chelsea to work with Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard, as we're all more than well aware by now, has not had it easy these past few weeks. Despite being tipped as genuine title contenders by some as recently November, his Chelsea side's league form has nosedived spectacularly - taking just four points from their last six games. The ease with which Manchester City breezed past them in their last league outing saw speculation that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was growing impatient and might soon decide to replace Lampard. Given Abramovich's track record for firing managers, it wouldn't come as too much of a surprise if Lampard finds himself out of a job in the near future. There is, however, a different solution being considered by their Russian billionaire owner. Instead of wielding the axe, Abramovich could, according to Sky Sports, decide to bring former manager Avram Grant back to Stamford Bridge to work alongside Lampard on a short-term basis. Grant was named Chelsea boss in 2007 following the (first) departure of Jose Mourinho and guided the club - with Lampard in midfield - to the 2008 Champions League final. Abramovich is said to believe that his experience could help the current manager through a difficult period of form. Grant has also had spells as manager of West Ham and Portsmouth in English football. His most recent managerial position was on an interim basis at Indian Super League side, NorthEast United FC. Prior to that he was manager of the Ghanaian national side between 2014 and 2017. Chelsea return to action this weekend when they take on Fulham in a west London derby at Craven Cottage. Should they fail to win that, Abramovich may decide to take action.
