Everton boss Ronald Koeman has a pretty blunt message for Aiden McGeady

The arrival of a new manager can often be a chance for forgotten players to earn themselves another chance.

Nani was on the way out at Manchester United when David Moyes came in and handed him a new and lucrative *five year* contract (!), while Antonio Valencia already looks like enjoying a career resurgence at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho. It doesn't always work that way, though, despite what Ireland fans may have hoped for Aiden McGeady. The winger's decline last season was stark - he went on loan to Championship promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday, but quickly found himself surplus to requirements there. Now it looks like McGeady doesn't have a look-in under Koeman and will need to find a new club before September 1 if he wants to play football this side of Christmas. Also in the same (sinking) boat as McGeady is £13.m striker Oumar Niasse. The Senegalese international was signed by former Everton boss Roberto Martinez in January, but played just seven games for the Toffees (five of those from the bench) and failed to find the net in any of them. Martinez lost his job in May, and Niasse, like McGeady, might have seen the arrival of new manager Ronald Koeman as an opportunity for a fresh start. Koeman does not agree. "It will be very difficult for [Niasse and Aiden McGeady] to be part of the team because we have a big squad," Koeman told the media ahead of Everton's Premier League trip to West Bromwich Albion, before responding bluntly when asked directly about Niasse's future.
