Never one to back down from a fight, Roy Keane had some strong words to say about English pop and rock legend Rod Stewart, on the latest episode of Stick to Football from the Overlap stable of podcasts.
Stewart is well known for a number of hit songs, including 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy' and 'Maggie May', and is also a die-hard Celtic fan, whom Keane played for after leaving Manchester United in 2005.
While speaking on talkSPORT back in 2021, Stewart had some choice words about the Irishman:
I think Roy can be a bit of a bully sometimes.
I admired him as a player but he’s a bit of a bully. I think there’s a way of speaking your mind and I think he’s far too aggressive.
He was an elite player but do you think he could be a good manager with that approach?
When Gary Neville brought up Stewart's comments, Keane did not hold back, while fellow host Jill Scott was sure that Keane had provoked Stewart in some way.
Keane - kitted out in a Pellador jumper - said: "He has a go at everybody, he has a go at everybody. Who does he think he is?
"I done nothing Jill, why do you think I've done something?
"Rod Stewart slags everybody off, who does he think he is?"
Ian Wright and Gary Neville stuck up for their fellow countryman and his talents, but Keane was not impressed when he went to him perform live, and had an unusual word to describe the 80-year-old singer.
He added: "Rod Stewart, f*****g hell. He has a go at everybody. Who does he think he is? Egg.
"I saw him two years ago and I tell you he was rubbish... He was rubbish that night, it's like when we have bad games.
"I didn't say he wasn't a good singer, he was just rubbish that night I saw him."
