Liverpool star player Mohamed Salah has posted a heartbreaking tribute to his teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in a car crash yesterday.
In a message, posted to his Twitter/X account, Salah said he was “frightened” to go back to Liverpool.
It reads: “I am truly lost for words. Until yesterday, I never thought there would be something that would frighten me of going back to Liverpool after the break.”
“Teammates come and go but not like this. It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we go back.”
Salah's message passed on wishes to Jota’s young family.
Jota married his long-term girlfriend Rute Cardoso in a ceremony in Spain just 10-days before the tragic incident.
The 28-year-old leaves behind three children.
Salah added: “My thoughts are with his wife, his children, and of course his parents who suddenly lost their children. Those close to Diogo and his brother Andre need all the support they can get. They will never be forgotten.”
The entire football world has been in shock since the tragic news of Jota’s death broke yesterday morning.
Hundreds of football fans were seen laying flowers and sharing memories of the Portuguese forward outside Anfield, Liverpool's iconic ground, as the city's community attempted to come to terms with the loss.
Egyptian football superstar Mo Salah is now the latest to pay respects to his former teammate.
He follows a series of heartbreaking messages from Cristiano Ronaldo, Jurgen Klopp, and Arne Slot.
Mohamed Salah has played 288 games for Liverpool since signing for The Reds in 2017, and spent 5-years together at Anfield with Jota.
