Scott Hogan’s big decision looms as two Premier League sides express interest

A move to either side should prove good business all round.

It was inevitable that Scott Hogan's goal return in the Championship would alert some teams dining at a higher level. On Tuesday, we reported that Newcastle United were leading the line of Championship suitors. Newcastle Chronicle went so far as to report that Brentford had slapped a £15m price-tag on the 24-year-old's head. Hogan, who is eligible to play for Ireland, has scored 20 goals in his last 31 league games after returning from a ruptured cruciate ligament injury. Brentford may be down in 14th but they are only nine points off the playoff places. They will be keen to hang onto Hogan for the remainder of the season at the very least. That steely will may be tested with news that two Premier League sides - West Ham and Watford - are both interested in signing Hogan. According to The Guardian, Watford have made an initial bid of £8m for Hogan but are prepared to add in a further £2m if Hogan hits a number of appearance and performance targets. West Ham are said to be "interested" in adding Hogan to their goal-shy squad but no bidding figure has been noted. The fact that Hogan has rapidly risen from non-league football has brought comparison with England international Jamie Vardy. He once played for Stockbridge Park Steels, the same side as the Leicester City striker.
