Shamrock Rovers player takes time out of football after battling depression

Mikey Drennan is taking time away from the Dublin club while he battles with depression.

The 22-year-old from Kilkenny wrote a post on his Facebook page revealing that he has been living with depression for the last three years and needs to take a break from the game. Drennan, who spent time with Aston Villa before returning to play in the League of Ireland, has not ruled out returning to football in the future but says that now is the time for him to "be happy because life is way too short." The club has also issued a statement, saying, "Shamrock Rovers can confirm that striker Mikey Drennan has been given time off by the club as a result of a personal matter.
