Stephanie Roche floats idea of potential move to Manchester United

Republic of Ireland women's striker Stephanie Roche said that it would be a dream come true for her to play for Manchester United.

The Manchester club recently applied to the Football Association to join the Women's Super League and they were awarded their license by the FA last month. Charlton, Leicester, Sheffield United and Lewes will join the Red Devils in the second-tier and Roche said that she would be open to a move to the club with her contract with Sunderland set to expire later this month.

“I’ll definitely look to get over there," Roche told United fansite Stretty News. "I’m still playing for Sunderland, but my contract runs out in June and it would be a dream to play for Manchester United. If I don’t get to play for them, I’ll definitely get over to watch and encourage other people to do so.”

Former Liverpool defender and England international Casey Stoney will manage the club next season and she said that she believes that United has the chance to change the face of women's football forever. "This the biggest club in the world," said Stoney following her appointment last week. "The fact we are going to have a women's team and I'm going to be able to introduce that from scratch, to build a team, build a philosophy, with the biggest club in the world, means that, for me, there is no more exciting opportunity. "I truly believe Manchester United has the ability to change the face of women's football forever."
