Erik ten Hag has reportedly warned his Manchester United squad that he will not tolerate egos in the dressing room with a stern email to the first-team players. The Dutchman, who has replaced interim boss Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford, will be keen to put a stop to dressing room splits and training ground leaks after United's turbulent 2021/22 campaign - with the Red Devils finishing the season without a trophy for the fifth year running.

Ten Hag warns players against lack of effort or disloyalty

As reported by The Sun, Ten Hag has already laid out a number of demands in a stern email to the squad, warning that he will not tolerate lack of effort or disloyalty.

A source told the newspaper: "The new gaffer sent the first-team players an email, telling them that football is a team game and no individual is more important than any other.

"His emphasis is all on the team — despite United possessing world class stars. He wants the players to train at a higher intensity so that each session is like a game." The former Ajax boss also plans to 'look into the private lives of players' so that he can get to know how they spend their time off the pitch and what hobbies they have. "He’s going to be a bit like Sir Alex Ferguson was," the source added. "Fergie knew absolutely everything about his players and didn’t suffer any fools gladly. Neither will Ten Hag."

United's fitness levels criticised

The Red Devils' fitness levels were criticised last campaign, and Ten Hag is said to have told his players that his regime will see them conditioned to the best levels of their careers – as long as they stick with him. Donny van de Beek, who worked under ten Hag at Ajax before his move to United, has echoed those warnings.
