Fans are convinced that Steven Gerrard is set to become Rangers manager

If it's a coincidence, it's a big one.

On Tuesday morning, a rumour began doing the rounds that Steven Gerrard was in the running to become the new Rangers manager. With Graeme Murty unlikely to be kept on as Rangers boss next season, Gerrard's odds have significantly shortened to take the Ibrox hotseat. Gerrard has been in a coaching role with Liverpool's Academy for over a year now and has been flourishing under the advice of first-team manager Jurgen Klopp. Fuel was poured on the Gerrard to Rangers fire on Tuesday night, when Gers chairman Dave King was pictured in the stands for Liverpool's 5-2 victory over Roma in the Champions League semi-final first leg. King was at Anfield alongside Reds legends Ian Rush and Kenny Dalglish and that didn't go unnoticed with the oddsmakers as Gerrard was shortened to odds-on favourite to take over at the Scottish Premiership side. In an interview with the club's official YouTube channel last year, the former Liverpool captain said: "I’ll never forget when I'm invited to Ibrox, it's an iconic stadium. "I've got a lot of respect for this football club and it's history and tradition - and that's the reason why we took the invitation up. "I had to take the opportunity to bring my team up to experience playing in front of that stadium, just being in the surroundings, in the dressing room - it's a wonderful place."
