Toon Army revolt as Newcastle United dump photos of Bobby Robson and Alan Shearer in skip

As if the chairman-supporter relationship at St James' Park could get any more toxic.

Newcastle United risked, and are now facing, the wrath of their fanbase after dumping out old team photos in order to make room for a new batch. Newcastle's Chronicle Live got its hands on images of several framed pictures, which included the likes of Magpies legends Bobby Robson, Alan Shearer and Gary Speed, dumped in a skip outside Leazes Stand. A team photo of then-manager Robson, alongside players such as Shearer, Speed, Shay Given, Rob Lee and Nobby Solano. That squad finished fourth in the Premier League and then qualified for the Champions League. 'Alongside around 30 other framed photographs,' the Chronicle states, 'the team picture now lies discarded in a skip, alongside grass cuttings and building materials.' The club has stated that the pictures were old and in need of replacing. Indeed, new pictures of John Carver's squad, including Jack Colback, Ryan Taylor and Sammy Ameobi, have taken the place of the old shots in United's corporate boxes.

Steve Wraith, of NUFC Fans United is quoted as saying: 'They could have auctioned them for charity, but just to put these things in the bin is awful. Now fans are talking about going and helping themselves. 'They are pictures of club legends. I don’t think the club want people to be reminded of a time when they were doing well because they are doing so badly at the moment.'
