Having finally been trusted to replace Iker Casillas between the sticks for his national side, he'd been a spectator in his first couple of matches at Euro 2016. Croatia was expected to be more of a test for the United stopper and he was nearly left red-faced in the first half when Ivan Rakitic somehow didn't score with a chip after De Gea had been caught in possession. In the end, it was the other Ivan - Perisic - that left him looking a bit of a mug.
