The Swedish striker, 26, ran amock against the English champions and upstaged Erling Haaland in the process.
Gyokeres scored three goals in the 4-1 win, including two penalties, and was the catalyst for Sporting's stunning comeback.
The good news for Man United fans is that Gyokeres has a buyout clause, according to reports. The potential transfer, however, may not be straight forward.
According to Spanish media outlet Sport, the striker is available for €100m.
This is a significant transfer fee, but Man United have spent similar fees on players who have been unsuccessful with the club, such as Antony.
Speaking after Sporting's famous win, Amorim played down suggestions that he was preparing to take Gyokeres with him to Old Trafford.
The Portuguese coach, however, hinted that the striker could be on the move at the end of the season.
"If I start joking about that, with Gyokeres, I have problems," the new United manager said.
"Victor has to stay until the end of the season, and then his life is going maybe to someone else."
Barcelona have also been linked with the former Coventry City striker, who started his career in his native Sweden with IF Brommapojkarna.
Gyokeres then joined Brighton and Hove Albion in 2017, but only made eight appearances for the Seagulls in four years at the club, scoring once.
He had loan spells with St. Pauli in Germany, and Swansea City and Coventry City in the Championship.
Gyokeres hit an excellent run of form with the Sky Blues, scoring 40 goals in 97 games for the team, which earned him a move to Sporting in 2023.
The Portuguese side paid €20m for the striker - a club record fee that could now be repaid five times over.
Gyokeres, who has also scored 10 goals in 24 games for Sweden, will inevitably linked with all of Europe's elite clubs over the coming months.
