Vincent Kompany reveals his Mom stopped him from signing for Manchester United

Kompany might have been a Manchester United player, if it wasn't for his mother.

The Belgian revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson tried to bring him to Old Trafford when he was a 17-year-old plying his trade at Anderlecht.

"United asked about me, but I had other priorities at the time. I was studying for my A-levels and my mother made me finish my education before I could concentrate on football."

Despite not signing for the Premier League outfit at such a young age, Kompany went on to have a pretty decent career. He landed a big move to German side Hamburg three years after Fergie before he making the move to Manchester City in 2008. Kompany, now captain of Man City, admitted that he was very grateful for how his career turned out and confessed that he doesn't hold any ill will towards his mother for blocking the move to United.

"But I’ve got to say that everything has played out perfectly for me in my career. It’s a massive honour to be captain of this club and I can tell you that I feel really good. I have put my sweat and blood into Manchester City. I’m passionate about the club and I want success as much as the owners."
