Virgil van Dijk says Liverpool are ready to catch Manchester City

"Leading the title race is not a very comfortable place to be."

Virgil van Dijk has said Liverpool will keep the pressure on Manchester City as it's 'uncomfortable' to be put under pressure in the Premier League title race. Jurgen Klopp's side are chasing the leaders and are currently six points behind with a game in hand. If Liverpool can maintain their excellent form, a win over Man City at the Etihad in April could see them potentially overtake the champions.

Virgil van Dijk reflects on being top of the Premier League.

Ahead of the Carabao Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea, Van Dijk reflected on the challenges of being the pace-setter in the Premier League title race. And the Netherlands captain highlighted the Red's consistency being essential to challenging City for the title.

"A couple of years ago, we were in the hot seat where we were a few points in front and it was tough and we gave it away," Van Dijk told The Daily Mail.

"It is not a very comfortable place to be. It is not easy to deal with the pressure but City have proven they can because they are unbelievable."

"There are still so many games to play. We are on a good level at the moment. There are always things to improve but the consistency we are showing is important and key to being able to compete against City."

Man City were 13 points clear in the Premier League at one point this season. However, their 3-2 loss to Tottenham last weekend has blown the title race wide open. Van Dijk reflected on the five-goal thriller, and said that Liverpool still have a lot of work to do to catch Man City.

"I didn't see the first goal as I was still in the dressing room at Anfield."

"I went to see my family in my box and we watched the first half and left at half-time. Before we came home, it was 2-2 so I thought it was game over. We drove home and I saw the result when I got home," Van Dijk added.

"We can't deny it's a good result, we hope it'll be a good result at the end of the season. They still have a good lead. They still have a crazy team, an unbelievable team, so much quality, and consistency, but it is never easy to have a team chasing behind you."
