'I want him to stay' - Eddie Howe backs Harry Arter

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has said that he wants Ireland midfielder Harry Arter to stay at the club despite reports linking him with a move to West Ham United.

Arter has been linked with a £15 million to the Hammers and was fallen out of favour with the Cherries recently following a calf injury last month. West Ham tabled a less than stellar offer of £8m last month, which was quickly and understandably rejected, but the Hammers have maintained their interest in the player.

"He was absolutely motivated to play and give his best and that's always the first thing I look at, are the players committed?" said Howe, ahead of Bournemouth's trip to West Ham on Saturday.

"Harry was very committed against Wigan and I thought he was one of the bright sparks. I want him to stay."

Moyes is looking to improve his midfield in what will be his first transfer window in charge. The former Manchester United boss is understood to be a long-term admirer of Arter and could be able to provide the Ireland international with more starting opportunities. Arter signed a four-year deal with Bournemouth last summer that will keep him at the Vitality Stadium until 2021.
