During Wednesday's game at St Mary's, the former Manchester United manager was furious that his side were denied a penalty by referee Chris Kavanagh and was sent to the stands. "I was sent off for leaving my box and swearing at the fourth official," Moyes said following the game.

"The problem was he chased me down the touchline. I swore at him and I shouldn't have done so I deserved to be sent off. "When you see the penalty decision again it's a stonewaller, no question. Inside the box Maya Yoshida fouls Victor (Anichebe), he comes across him, and it should have been a definite penalty awarded."

Over on Sky Sports News HQ, Moyes was asked what did Chris Kavanagh say to him. "I don't know who Chris Kavanagh is," Moyes replied, before being informed that Kavanagh was, in fact, the referee. It all made for very awkward television.
