There is no doubt but Turkish football fans are a breed apart.

They are easily some of the most passionate fans around, and by 'passionate', we mean generally unhinged. The country has witnessed some terrible on-field violence against both players and officials, with security lax at the best of times. It often seems as if fans think they are a law unto themselves, and once again another violent incident marred the final round of games at the weekend. Needing a win to stand any chance of staying up, Eskisehirspor were perilously close to relegation on Friday night when they faced Medipol Basakehir in their own stadium, the Eskisehir Atatürk Stadium. However, a late goal from Sokol Cikalleshi meant a 2-1 reversal and almost certain demotion to the second tier from the Turkish Super Lig unless they win the final game of the season on Wednesday.
