Young footballers could learn a lot from Bastian Scwheinsteiger’s gracious reaction to today’s winner

Bastian Schweinsteiger is a team player, first and foremost.

The Manchester United midfielder looked to have scored a matchwinner for his first goal since joining the club from Bayern Munich. As United's match with Watford looked set for a draw, the German midfielder pounced on a Heurelho Gomes' parry to send the ball back towards goal. Troy Deeney slid in to make a clearance but ended up bundling the ball over the line. Schweinsteiger would be forgiven for claiming all of the glory but, in a modest interview with BT Sport, he was happier to have simply helped his team claim three points. He said, "You always have 90 or 93 minutes. You always have to believe. "You have to give your best until the final whistle." Asked if he would be claiming the late winner, Schweinsteiger responded:

"You have to sniff [for goal] a little, I think. "The game was not so easy, I think, but of course Deeney touched the ball."
