Zinedine Zidane reveals Real Madrid’s sights set on Raheem Sterling

The number of clubs that Liverpool will have to fend off from sniffing around Raheem Sterling has just increased by a sizeable plus one this evening, after confirmation that the current European Champions are interested in the player. It's not like Real Madrid are short on players to hug the touchline with Ronaldo on one side and Gareth Bale on the other, but well,I suppose one more wouldn't do any harm. In an interview in the Daily Mail tonight Zinidine Zidane,who's deeply involved behind the scenes at Real now as the club's B team coach, has confirmed the club are monitoring the situation involving the former QPR player.

'We know who Raheem Sterling is, and of course we are monitoring him as a player. There are very few players in the world who can improve the Real Madrid squad, so it is going to make sense we monitor the progress of the best young players in the world. We monitored Bale for over a year, the same with Isco and also Varane.

We monitor many of the best young players in Europe, then if we feel they have something to offer Real Madrid we will contact their club and try and make the next step.'

The statement from the former Real midfielder will increase the anxiety of Liverpool fans that one of their prized assets is about to leave the club. Last week Sterling revealed that he had rejected a £100k-a-week new deal at the club while a number of Premier League clubs,including Arsenal, are also set to be interested in his services.
