Cork hurlers set to lose another squad member as United States exodus continues

The Cork hurling panel is about to suffer another setback. Days after losing out to Waterford in the Munster championship, The Rebels are bracing themselves for the departure of forward Jamie Coughlan. According to The Examiner, the Newtownshandrum man is weighing up a trip to America over the summer. Travelling Statesside has become an increasingly attractive option to GAA players in recent years, with the standard of hurling and football on the rise - due, in part to youth emigration - and decent job offers. Already this year, Cork have lost Cian McCarthy, Conor O'Sullivan and William Egan. Coughlan's expected departure would further damage a squad that now must target All-Ireland glory through the back door. The 23-year-old was a regular in the 2012 championship campaign but has found himself falling down the pecking order of Jimmy Barry Murphy and his selectors. He has only started one championship game since 2013 and has, of late, been used off the bench.
