Kerry GAA confirm player failed drug test after 2016 Allianz Final

Kerry GAA has released a statement to confirm that one of their panel, Brendan O'Sullivan, failed a drug test after the 2016 Allianz League final loss to Dublin.

O'Sullivan, who plays midfield for Valentia Young Islanders, was struck with a rule violation from Sport Ireland after undergoing doping control. He had come off the bench for The Kingdom in the defeat to Dublin and gave a sample soon after. The Kerry GAA statement notes the O'Sullivan has served his suspension and that the violation was 'not intentional'. Here is the Kerry GAA statement in full:

On the 24^th of April 2016 Brendan O’ Sullivan (Valentia Young Islanders & Kerry) underwent a routine Sport Ireland doping control test following the Allianz League final. The results of the test indicated a rule violation. Brendan O’Sullivan fully cooperated in assisting Sport Ireland. The subsequent findings of Sport Ireland accepted that the rule violation was not intentional and the resultant suspension has been served. Sport Ireland is expected to deliver a written decision shortly. All involved with Kerry GAA are delighted to see Brendan back playing football. Kerry County Committee and Team Management will be making no further comments until the Sport Ireland report has been issued.
