Roscommon release statement condemning own fans who booed Andy Moran

Mayo fans complained on Twitter on Sunday night and Monday morning that forward Andy Moran was on the receiving end of the boo treatment from Roscommon fans when the sides met on Sunday.

Moran was only on the pitch for 58 minutes of Sunday's All-Ireland quarter-final, which caused consternation among Mayo support, who believe that Stephen Rochford should leave one of his star forwards on the pitch for the full game. A section of Roscommon supporters were said to have been booing Moran every time he got on the ball during the game, which is believed to arise out of the fact that he's from Ballaghaderreen, a town located in Roscommon but who play their football in Mayo. Roscommon GAA released a statement on Wednesday morning condemning this behaviour.

"Roscommon Senior Football management and players would like to publicly thank the many Roscommon supporters who travelled to Croke Park yesterday to support them. During the game, it was obvious that a section of Roscommon supporters tried to upset Andy Moran by booing him while on or near the ball. The Roscommon players and management do not condone this behavior from any set of fans but especially our own and believe it has no place in Gaelic games or indeed any sport. We strongly urge all supporters to please refrain from booing any player. We as a team have a value set and we always try and play the game in a sporting manner and expect our supporters to support in a similar manner. Thank you for your continued support."
