Three men were arrested on Tuesday, September 2, over a serious assault which occurred in Mayo late last month.
As we reported at the time, one of the men in a sports star.
The attack took place on Tucker Street in Castlebar at around 2.50am.
A man in his 20s was brought to Mayo University Hospital with serious head injuries, before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin for specialist treatment.
In a statement, Gardaí said: “Gardaí in Co Mayo continue to investigate a serious assault that occurred in the Tucker Street area of Castlebar in the early hours of Saturday 23rd of August 2025.
“This morning, Tuesday 2nd of September 2025, Gardaí arrested three males in connection with this investigation.
“They are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at stations in the Garda North Western Region.
“The man injured in this incident, aged in his 20s, remains in a critical condition at Beaumont Hospital.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
