Chicago Cubs World Series victory gives hope to Ireland as All Blacks await

The wait was worth it... just about.

The Chicago Cubs are World Series winners for the first time in 108 years after they came back from 3-1 down to clinch Game 7 in the 10th inning of an unforgettable game, against Cleveland Indians. Having fought back from the brink to level the series, the Cubs looked set to coast through the decider when they went 5-1 up. However, they were pegged back to six apiece and needed World Series MVP Ben Zobrist to step up with a game-clinching double. The Cubs closed the game out to spark wild scenes of jubilation in Cleveland, Chicago and every small Cubs-supporting pocket of the globe. While celebrity fans Eddie Vedder and John Cusack celebrated in the stands, comedian Bill Murray was straight to the dressing room for the champagne shower and warm, tearful embraces. Cubs coach Joe Maddon revealed the credo that has inspired the 2016 Cubs:

"Love the tradition but forget the curse; forget the superstition."

Words to take note of for a Mayo team in the midst of a Sam Maguire drought since 1951.
