Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins dies aged 24

'I am devastated and at a loss for words'

The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that their quarter back Dwayne Haskins, 24,  has died in a car accident. Haskins was killed in South Florida on Saturday morning after he was training with other quarter backs, running backs and wide receivers from the Steelers team. Haskins' agent, Cedric Saunders, revealed the news to ESPN, who said: "Dwayne Haskins, a standout at Ohio State before becoming Washington’s first-round pick and playing in Pittsburgh, died this morning when he got hit by a car in South Florida, per his agent Cedric Saunders. Pittsburgh Steelers pay tribute to Haskins

Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed the news in a statement on social media. "I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins," he said.

"He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community. Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family during this difficult time."

Washington Commanders also took time to remember Haskins

Washington also paid tribute to Haskins in a statement, which said: "We are devastated to hear the news of the tragic passing of Dwayne Haskins Jr. "He was a young man with a tremendous amount of potential who had an infectious personality. To say we are heartbroken is an understatement. "Our hearts and prayers are with the members of his family and all of those who knew him and loved him." https://twitter.com/Commanders/status/1512819376050909190 Haskins then joined the Steelers at the start of 2021 and was a third-choice quarter back behind the likes of Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph. Despite never featuring in his two years, Haskins did play in four pre-season games for Pittsburgh - starting in one of them.
