Nadia Power smashes her own national 800m record by a second and a half

When you're breaking your own national records, that's when you know you're onto something.

It was only a fortnight ago when Dubliner Nadia Power ran 2.02.44 to break the Irish women's indoor 800m record previously held by Siofra-Cleirigh Buttner. With the European indoors on the horizon, Power looked primed to mix it with the continent's best. As the build-up to the March 5-7 weekend edges closer, Power has served another reminder of her class as she broke her own record by a second and a half in a high class 800m race in Torun, Poland on Wednesday night. Competing in the world indoor tour, Power finished in third place behind Ethiopia's Habitam Alemu in a time of 2.00.98 to round off her preparations for next month's major championship. https://twitter.com/Cathal_Dennehy/status/1362098864279453699 It's the latest in a string of top class performances from Ireland's middle and long distance runners, many of whom are training together under the umbrella of the Dublin Track Club. The initiative, founded by Feidhlim Kelly has seen a huge upturn in the performances of Irish distance athletes and could herald this country's return to the international force it once was. Power herself runs for Dublin City Harriers and is coached Longford man Enda Fitzpatrick. Together, they will be hoping to rubber-stamp this breakthrough with a medal at next month's major.
