Dutch hope Jan Dekker nails clutch 100 to stay alive

Dutch darts player Jan Dekker briefly kept his PDC World Darts Championship hopes alive with a checkout 100 to steal the third set against Mervyn King on Thursday night.

Dekker was trailing two sets to nil and stole the third leg and third set in the 54th match with a checkout 100 to prolong the match. King had a chance then to seal the match and take the deciding fourth set but he missed his sixth dart for the match, allowing Dekker to snatch the fourth, before he eventually reclaimed the fifth set to win the match 3-2. Dekker has never progressed past the first two rounds of the PDC World Darts Championship after losing 3-0 to Adrian Lewis in 2016 before crashing out of last year's championship in the second round after he was defeated by  Dimitri Van den Bergh. Meanwhile Mervyn King was a semi-finalist in 2009 before ultimately losing to Phil Taylor while he has failed to progress past the third round of the world championship in his nine appearances since that defeat.
