Irish tennis player Georgia Drummy is just one win away from qualifying for the Australian Open junior singles draw.
The 15-year-old won her first qualifier against Sakura Yonehara on Wednesday. Drummy defeated the Japanese teenager in three sets 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 and now America’s Helen Abigail Altick is all that stands between her and qualification for the Grand Slam.
Altick is ranked 105th in the world junior rankings, whereas Drummy entered qualification ranked 200th.
Should she defeat Altick, Drummy would become the youngest ever Irish player to qualify for a Grand Slam event in tennis. This would be an incredible feat particularly because it marks the first time she's played at a major tournament.
Drummy is scheduled to take on Altick on Thursday with the winner securing a place in the final 64 of the Australian Open.
