“Don’t ever doubt me” – Katie Taylor has a message for her doubters after Cameron victory

"Tonight you've seen the real me."

Katie Taylor avenged the only loss of her career last night as she defeated Chantelle Cameron in front of a raucous home crowd to become two-weight undisputed champion. After losing to Cameron in May, the Bray native faced a tough six months leading up to the rematch on Saturday night, coming in as the underdog. However, exiting victorious after 10 grueling rounds, one line of her victory speech rang clear: "Don't ever doubt me." Speaking to DAZN after being crowned champion, the 37-year-old boxing legend began by addressing the crowd with: "Two weight world champion, that sounds very nice. "That was the longest six months of my life waiting for this rematch. All I was ever thinking about was the rematch. "This is my home crowd, this is my real homecoming tonight."

Katie Taylor proves doubters wrong with incredible homecoming victory

Amid loud chants of "Katie! Katie! Katie!" ringing around the 3Arena on Saturday night, the 2012 Olympic champion managed to give one of her all time great post-fight interviews.

"Whoever wrote me off obviously doesn't know me very well. I was nearly offended that I was the underdog going into this fight. Don't ever doubt me."

Asked what was different between her disappointing defeat in May and her victory that evening, Taylor said: "Well the last fight you seen the worst of me and the best of Chantelle and it was still a close fight. "Tonight you've seen the real me and when I'm boxing like that nobody can beat me." After the roars died down amongst the electric atmosphere within the arena, Taylor was asked one final question, one which was probably the most anticipated of the night. Before the interviewer could get his question finished about the possibility of another fight down, Katie grabbed the mic from his hand and said defiantly: "Let's get the trilogy at Croke Park."
