Tributes have poured in following the untimely passing of Sophie Healy, a title-winning boxer from Cork.
According to her death notice, Sophie died 'unexpectedly but peacefully' surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 8.
A member of Golden Gloves Boxing Club, Sophie was a talented boxer who had won two Irish titles with the club.
Golden Gloves Boxing Club Churchfield Cork posted on social media saying: "It’s with heavy heart we post this of the untimely passing of a former member Sophie Healy.
"Sophie won 2 lrish titles with the boxing club and always represented the club with great pride and honour.
"Our deepest condolences to Sophies family and friends in this very difficult time. RIP champ."
Fr Horgan's Boxing Club also paid tribute to their former boxer, saying: We at Fr Horgans boxing club are devastated with the news of young Sophie Healy’s passing.
"Sophie was a brilliant young boxer and young woman who was a pleasure to have in the club.
"She represented the club both at home in Ireland and abroad and always represented the club well and with pride.
"Our thoughts are with her parents Alan and Melissa, her sister Lauren, her extended family and her friends during this very tough time.
"Sophie was a lovely young girl with a bright future ahead of her and the club is absolutely proud to have had Sophie represent us.
"Fly high Sophie you will be deeply missed by us all."
Cork City FC, where Sophie's sister Lauren plays for the u19s women's team, said: "Everyone at Cork City FC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sophie Healy, sister of our Women's Under 19 player, Lauren.
"Our thoughts are with Sophie's family and friends at this difficult time.
"May she rest in peace."
St Joseph's Camogie team observed a minute's silence during a recent Junior match vs Youghal.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Sophie’s family & friends, may she rest in peace," said the club in a statement.
