Borini has played as more of a wide man in recent weeks, allowing Sunderland top scorer Jermain Defoe to flourish up front for the Black Cats and the Italian international believes his dogged work in a deeper role is not unlike that of Muller.
“I call my role a blind job because people don’t notice the work you’re doing,” Borini told The Guardian. “I feel a bit like Thomas Müller at Bayern Munich – they pick him because he does a lot of blind jobs, which makes things easier for everyone else.”
Muller, who has managed to find the net 20 times in the Bundesliga this season, is one of the greatest forwards in world football so it may be a tad ambitious for Borini to draw such comparisons.
Borini added: “You could see against Arsenal last week [when Sunderland drew 0-0 at the Stadium of Light] that I probably touched the ball more in my own box than in the opposition half so it does get a little bit frustrating. It’s not so enjoyable.”
There were very few people who were in agreement with Mr Borini's opinion.
