RTÉ announce put World Cup ahead of GAA in controversial coverage change

This will fume traditionalists...

One of RTÉ's flagship GAA showS, "The Saturday Game", will have their coverage of highlights moved to the RTÉ player.

The national broadcaster announced they will be broadcasting 104 fixtures live from the biggest tournament in the world.

This change is for the first three weeks of the North American tournament.

Of course for GAA fans, June and July are massive months, with the All-Ireland race starting to heat up.

Without a highlights show, key All-Ireland moments will not be showcased on terrestrial TV.

As you might assume, GAA traditionalists have responded to this with displeasure.

One fan on X said: "GAA coverage by RTÉ is abysmal, all the World Cup matches on at ungodly hours and probably a gang over there."

Another supporter referenced previous RTE mistakes annoying fans: "It seems to be amateur hour every hour. Lost count of the amount of own goals at this stage. It all just seems to be too much for them."

Another supporter mentioned the trouble the website will bring to older fans: "No word from RTÉ but Will saying TSG will be on the RTE Player Saturday night and the next three nights.

"Good way to drive traffic to the underperforming platform, but won't go down well with the 'my grandad can't work the internet' section."

A final fan added: "That’s an absolute disaster as we all know the Player isn’t fit for purpose! More RTE dysfunction."
