Final golf major of the year will not be shown on Irish television

The USPGA Championship will not be shown on Irish television this year after Eleven Sports, founded by Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani, acquired the broadcasting rights to the final major of the golf calendar year.

The centenary edition of the golf major, which runs from 9-12 August at the Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, will be the official launch event on ELEVEN SPORTS.

All four rounds will be free and live in a seven-day trial on www.elevensports.uk while the first two rounds will also be streamed on Facebook Live through Eleven Sports’ page.

“Launching Eleven Sports in the UK and Ireland with such a prestigious event as the 100th PGA Championship, confirms our position as a major player in the market,” said Danny Menken, group managing director.

“We are looking forward to maximising this fantastic opportunity to appeal to existing golf fans through comprehensive free-to-air live coverage and analysis, while also growing new audiences with our fresh and innovative ways of delivering leading sports action.”

The acquisition of the USPGA Championship follows Eleven Sports' recent purchases of the La Liga, Serie A, Eredivisie, Chinese Super League, the Swedish Allsvenskan as well as the rumoured acquisition of UFC broadcasting rights from BT Sport. The ELEVEN SPORTS online platform and the mobile and tablet apps will be launched ahead of the event starting in early August, when details of how to subscribe, plus an affordable and flexible pricing plan for the premium action on ELEVEN SPORTS beyond the PGA Championship will also be announced.
