Faldo's completely unnecessary dig at Sergio Garcia really riled up the Scot

The Ryder Cup may seem like a long time ago now but if you recall, right at the start of play, Nick Faldo used his platform as a pundit to lay into Sergio Garcia. On the Friday of this year's event at Gleneagles, Faldo said that Garcia was 'useless' and had a 'bad attitude' when he had him on his team at the 2008 match. Garcia didn't have a good event that year, halving just two of his four matches but the consensus on that Valhalla meeting was that the worst performer of all was the European captain himself. At the time, Garcia, who went on to claim 2.5 points in Scotland, said: “I guess he doesn’t feel European. That’s the only thing I can think of. You know, there’s a lot of things I could say about Nick Faldo, but I’m not going to put myself down to his level.” Classy stuff from the Spaniard but now one of the vice-captains at Gleneagles, Sam Torrance, has decided to put the boot into Faldo. In an interview with Bunkered magazine, Torrance calls Faldo an 'arsehole' and 'pathetic'. “To say that right in the middle of the Ryder Cup, what was the arsehole thinking about?” said Torrance. “The reaction in the team room was magnificent. The guys rallied round García like he was an injured, well, goose! “Really, it was pathetic from Faldo. I’ve no idea where he was coming from with that stuff. You can even quote me on that, I don’t care. “He’s an arsehole. It was beyond belief that one of our greatest-ever players would come out with a comment like that. “García’s not a team player? Have a look in the mirror, pal. García’s one of the best team players we have. He’s an incredible kid, with the heart of a lion and he’s incredible in the team room.
