Joe Rogan doesn’t agree with giving McGregor a rematch against Khabib

Since UFC 229 concluded calls for a rematch between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor have been rampant.

SBG head coach, John Kavanagh confirmed the Monday after the fight that McGregor was immediately talking about a rematch. It is a second fight that would arguably be even bigger than the first given the sheer drama involved in the build-up and the aftermath. However, one high-profile UFC official has come out and said he is totally against the idea of seeing McGregor vs Khabib 2. The official in question is UFC commentator Joe Rogan. Rogan was speaking on his popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience when he outlined that he sees why soem may be calling for a second fight, but feels it doesn't make sense based on what we seen in Las Vegas the first time around.

"There’s all this talk about a Conor rematch, because financially that would be a fantastic fight,” Rogan said. "But if you look at what happened, that was a dominant victory. There was one round where Conor did pretty good, the third round.

"Other than that, Khabib just sort of dominated him. I mean, he dropped him in the second, beat the f*cking shit out of him in the fourth. The third was a round where Conor did pretty good, because most of it was standing up."

The stand-up comedian admitted that the same argument was presented when McGregor challeneged Nate Diaz for a second time after succumbing to defeat in their first welterweight clash.

"I guess you could say that’s the same thing that sort of happened in the Nate Diaz fight [with McGregor] and then Conor came back and won the rematch, Rogan said. "So, this is the argument. The argument is Conor was rusty, he’s out of the cage for two years, he gets back in, let's do a rematch.

"Then, financially — Jesus Christ. It was the biggest [UFC] fight of all time. They're saying it was above 2.4 million pay-per-view buys, which is f*cking bananas. That's huge."

Rogan understands why they would choose to do a rematch, but believes that one fighter in particular deserves to fight Khabib next.

"If they could talk people into a rematch, I get it. Rogan said. "But I don’t want to see that. I want to see Tony. I want to see Tony and Khabib."
