Connacht go joint-top of the PRO12 after stunning Ospreys victory

Five games into the new Guinness PRO12 season and Connacht are the leading Irish province. The westerners beat Ospreys 21-16 at The Liberty Stadium to go joint-top of the league. Connacht join Scarlets, who beat Munster last night, on 20 points but have a slightly inferior points difference. Jack Carty kicked 11 points while there were tries for Bundee Aki and winger Matt Healy. Ospreys went into an 8-3 lead after an early penalty and a Dan Baker try. Carty had Connacht's opening responses, from the kicking tee, but more was to come. Much more. Kieran Marmion, who was not deemed good enough for Ireland's World Cup squad, made another of his trademark breaks. After eating up the yards, he offloaded for Healy who touched down in the corner. Carty missed the conversion but made no mistake after the break after another try. This time, it was the rampaging Kiwi centre Aki that dotted down. Ospreys responded by sending on Wales internationals Paul James and Justin Tipuric as they sought to fight back from 18-8 down. Sam Davies tagged three points back but missed with his conversion attempt when Tipuric romped over for a try.
