Major update on controversial new Munster coaching hire following backlash

In an exclusive from the Irish Independent, Cian Tracey has reported that the appointment of the New Zealander - who was set to come in ahead of next season - is to be cancelled following major backlash.

The controversy stemmed from historic rape allegations against the former All Black from 1997, when he was in Durban as a player with the Highlanders.

The charges against him - which he has always denied - were dropped, but the accuser stood by her allegations.

Members of Munster's Professional Games Committee - including former players Mick O'Driscoll, Killian Keane and Billy Holland - stood down from their positions over the appointment, and, as per the report, were angered after not being consulted.

There were also further resignations from Munster's Commercial Advisory Group, while fans were also angered by the handling of the situation from head coach Clayton McMillan - who worked over Randle at the Chiefs - chief executive Ian Flanagan and general manager Ian Costello.
