WATCH: Joey Carbery did not last long after this worrying ankle twist

Joey Carbery would have been hoping to kick on with Leinster during Johnny Sexton's injury-enforced spell on the sidelines.

There is no definitive timeline on when Sexton will return for Leinster but he may soon be joined by Carbery in the treatment room. Carbery was part of a Leinster team that started brilliantly against Northampton, at Franklin's Gardens, and rushed into a 10-0 lead. On a push for a second try, Carbery was subjected to a high-low, double team defensive hit - from Jamie Gibson and Stephen Meyler - that forced him into a knock-on. As play was called back, the extent of Carbery's injury became clear and treatment was quick to follow. The 21-year-old, who scored a try against Dragons last weekend, attempted to play on after receiving treatment but only last four minutes. Ross Byrne, who featured for Ireland U20 in the Junior World Championships during the summer, replaced the limping Carbery and settled into a backline that also features academy prospect Adam Byrne. Leinster took the lead after Rob Kearney's excellent line break, fend and pass set up Garry Ringrose for the opening try. Isa Nacewa converted that one and added a penalty kick a couple of minutes later.
