It's against this backdrop that Burnley, back in the top flight after one season in the Championship, have made a £3m bid for Derby County's Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick.

Understandably, Derby have dismissed this out of hand. Hendrick was hugely impressive during the Euros and his market value is likely to be at least three times that amount, especially with the new TV deal in place.
What makes it more galling is that Burnley have already rejected a £15m bid from Leicester for Michael Keane so they seem acutely aware of how to try and take full advantage of a club that is flush with cash.
You can't really blame them for trying their hand with a bid for Hendrick, but £3m was never going to wash in the current climate and is pretty insulting to both the player and Derby to pretend that he might be available for that price.
