Alex Iwobi curled in a delightful opener for Everton, off the back of a Casemiro mistake in midfield. Amadou Onana hounded the Brazilian and nicked the ball to start a Toffees attack that saw Iwobi get the freedom of Merseyside to set himself and curl one past David De Gea.

Ronaldo joins 700 club
15 minutes in, though, and United were back level. Anthony Martial slid Antony through on goal and Brazilian set himself with a couple of touches before crisply finishing past Jordan Pickford. It was the new signing's third goal in his first three league appearances for United.
Martial lasted until the 27th minute but a hip injury saw him come off early, replaced by Cristiano Ronaldo. The veteran's first meaningful contribution was being flagged offside after Bruno Fernandes had put the ball past Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal. The hosts got a reprieve and the game remained level.
And it was somehow still level when Casemiro headed wide from seven yards out, after being expertly picked out by Marcus Rashford.
Casemiro had endured a ropey first half but, on 44 minutes, won possession in midfield and immediately sought out Ronaldo, who finished confidently past Pickford for his 700th club goal:

Seamus Coleman keeps Everton in it
The biggest talking points of the opening 20 minutes of the second half were a couple of feisty Everton challenges that say Onana and Anthony Gordon booked.
Victor Lindelof got in ahead of Gordon to cut out one dangerous cross, while Seamus Coleman slid in to put a Rashford cross - meant for an unmarked Ronaldo on the back post - out for a corner.
Everton were getting glimpses of the United goal yet, as long as the visitors did not get out of sight, there was hope for the home faithful. On 73 minutes, Ronaldo teed up Christian Eriksen but the Dane could not keep his shot down. Moments later, Rashford was wide with a ping from the edge of the box.
Rashford looked to have settled the tie with a well-taken solo goal, after a Ronaldo flick on, but a VAR review should a slight deflection off his arm as he got past James Tarkowski, and the score remained 2-1 to United.
As the game went into injury time, former United player James Garner drew a superb save from De Gea, then Dominic Calvert-Lewin nodded wide from the resulting corner. The Toffees forced one final corner and Pickford came up but Raphaël Varane denied him a header for the equaliser.
There were two more corners before a late block, on 95 minutes, was the final action and United had another win on the road.
