Villa have insisted Grealish won't be going anywhere for less than £40m, yet the report claims Daniel Levy will believe he can get him for as little as £15m given the club's widely reported recent money issues.
Famed for his hard-nosed bargaining, Levy is no stranger to haggling for players.
Mauricio Pochettino, who now appears set to remain with Spurs despite reported interest from Real Madrid, is said to be keen on bringing Grealish to north London, identifying him as one of their key transfer targets. The report suggests that Pochettino's proven track record for improving young footballers may help persuade him to leave his boyhood club.
Judging by the speculation surrounding Grealish since Villa's defeat to Fulham in the Championship Play-off final last month, it's highly unlikely that Spurs will be the only club looking to sign him. Manchester United are said to be interested too, as are Leicester City and Newcastle United.
For now though, it seems Spurs may be leading the race.Live sport on TV in Ireland this weekend – Football, GAA, Rugby – April 24th to 26th
