Marcos Rojo could be staying at United if Champions League qualifier doesn’t go his way

One United player will have an added interest in a certain Champions League qualifier this week.

Marcos Rojo has been linked with a season-long loan move away from Manchester United this month but, apparently, it all depends on Tuesday night's game. Fenerbahce are keen on adding the Argentine defender to their ranks but Bleacher Report's Dean Jones reports that the Turkish side will only up their interest in Rojo if they progress to the next round of the Champions League. Fenerbahce trail Benfica 1-0 going in to the second leg of their third qualifying round tie but if the hosts turn the result around, they will intensify their pursuit of Rojo. If Benfica progress, however, then Fenerbahce are expected to abandon their interest in the 28-year-old who moved to Old Trafford four years ago. It's been made clear to Rojo that he's not in the first-team plans of United boss Jose Mourinho, despite the fact that the Red Devils failed to bring in a central defender in the summer transfer window. Louis van Gaal brought Rojo to the club for a fee of £16 million in 2014 but he failed to nail down a regular starting place at any stage of his United career. Last season, he made just nine Premier League appearances and while he was given the No. 16 shirt that was vacated by Michael Carrick's retirement ahead of the new season, Rojo could well be set for the exit door.
