Brendan Devenney slams Tyrone’s denial that 17-year-old was sledged in Ulster clash

An ugly situation just gets uglier.

The Tyrone county board were probably hoping that last night's statement to deny all the mud being slung in their direction after last week's Ulster minor clash with Donegal would put the issue to bed. The board responded to the allegations made by both Brendan Devenney and Donegal minor manager Declan Bonner that Donegal's Michael Carrol has been verbally abused by two Tyrone players about the death of his father. The stain on the Tyrone squad was huge, and last night's statement categorically denied that any players had engaged in the disgusting behavior,

'As a result of the investigation undertaken it would refute in the strongest possible terms that a comment was made by any of its players to a Donegal player regarding the death of his father in 2014. Tyrone GAA in no way condone 'sledging' and the managers and coaches of all our county teams actively discourage this practice.'

That, you thought, would be that, but Devenney today has written a long Facebook post criticising the latest missive from Tyrone. He firmly believes that Michael Carrol was abused last week, and that Tyrone's statement has just made the situation much worse by denying that any abuse took place,

'Tyrone Co Boards response is a joke.' 'There's crap that goes on in every county, we just have to put up with it people say. Well for me, not this time. The sh*t that young Mick O'Carroll had to endure sickened me Sunday and everyday since.' 'Mick grew up like me and like most young lads in our dads shadow,the strong man you look up to. Francie O'Carroll RIP represented Gweedore and Donegal with distinction.' 'The sh*t that was thrown at his son needs to be addressed, not by naming the young lads involved but by the senior people around them getting to the bottom of their misguided actions and by addressing them.' 'We all did stupid stuff when we were young, so they must get a pass, as long as they learn from this.' 'There however is no pass for the actions of the Tyrone Co board and comments of senior Tyrone men that have wrongly spoken on the subject.'

The former inter-county forward goes on the criticise the Tyrone county board for their response and is unhappy why people would question his and Declan Bonner's version of events.(Click to enlarge)
