Ciaran Whelan remembers his time in Coppers to brilliantly describe Donegal

The question here is whether Ciaran Whelan is the swooper or the swoopee? The former Dublin midfielder used quite an unusual metaphor to describe how Donegal have started their championship campaign at full-tilt against quality opponents while Dublin and Kerry have been allowed to coast. Whelan leaned heavily on the behaviour of nightclub revellers to articulate his point in the Irish Independent that although Donegal look great at the moment, the winners of the last two All-Irelands will likely end up with the Sam Maguire once more.

"Donegal now resemble the lad at the nightclub who spends the whole night having to put in the ground work and graft in chatting up the girl. He looks like the top contender and has not put a foot wrong all night. But there is always a danger that he could hit a flat patch and go stale when it matters most. This allows a Dublin lad or a Kerry lad to swoop in during the last ten minutes of the night with a fresh approach and go home with the girl!"

Do you agree with Whelan, not just about Donegal v Kerry and Dublin, but on nightclub etiquette? The gusto with which that exclamation point was delivered would make you think that Whelan has done some last second poaching as the lights come in Coppers at the end of a long Saturday night.
